MLA appealed to the farmers to end picketing

Land acquisition compensation increase ongoing picket in front of the office of Deputy Commissioner Aftab Ahmad reached at NUH legislators heard farmers' problems.MLA assured the farmers that they talk to their demands pointed at the Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. He urged farmers to end the picketing.

Significantly, the government acquired land to farmers in Mewat district, 27 to 35 lakh per acre is compensated. This amount is considerably higher in other districts. Mewat the farmers say they come in NCR region, but the pattern of NCR them being half crore compensation. Compensation for taking on the lines of NCR last week of Mewat farmer sitting on dharna in front of DC office.

Mewat District was a part of Gurgaon and Faridabad district of Haryana until the year 2004. As a newly formed district it came into being on 4th April 2005 and became the 20th district of Haryana. Mewat district comprises of three sub-divisions that are Nuh, Firozpur Jhirka and Hathin with the district headquarter positioned at Nuh. The district consists of six blocks and five hundred thirty two villages, of which twenty seven villages are either uninhibited or are in control of Municipal Committees. Besides these the Mewat district is also a part of the Mewat region. The latter is of historical importance and lies both in the states of Haryana and Rajasthan.

Gurgaon, April 20 (IANS) Haryana's Mewat district is just 30 km from its showcase city of Gurgaon. But the difference between the two worlds couldn't be more stark.

People, reeling under abject poverty and lacking basic amenities, have a new hope as the region is now part of Gurgaon constituency after delimitation. As one moves from the IT hub of Gurgaon towards Mewat, insignias of modern day life like high rise buildings, tarred roads and even potable water cease to exist.

'We do not want big promises, but at least the government should solve the problem of water. We do not have enough water either for drinking and irrigation. The ground water is hard (salty) and for our crops we depend mainly on rains,' Jahan Khan, 52, former headman of Golpuri village, told IANS
